The New England Patriots offense started things off strong at mandatory minicamp on Monday, but the defense quickly came back with a few highlight plays.
The best moment came during the team period when Kyle Williams made an incredible catch in the end zone. The rookie receiver showed off his speed, getting passed Dell Pettus and Marcus Epps, with Josh Dobbs throwing a perfectly placed ball to Williams for a 40(ish)-yard touchdown.
But, there were so many other key moments, so here are other observations from the first day of mandatory minicamp.
Drake Maye – 14/18
Josh Dobbs – 9/13, INT
Ben Wooldridge – 2/4
Cornerback Isaiah Bolden got the only interception of the day in the red zone period with Dobbs at quarterback. In a game, it would have been a clear pick-six.
Throughout OTAs, undrafted free agent Efton Chism III stood out, making his presence known on the field whenever he got an opportunity, whether it was in individual drills or the team periods.
Even quarterback Drake Maye has noticed it, mentioning to reporters that “Chis had like 50 catches in OTAs.”
However, on Monday, he had a quieter day, only recording two catches.
So far, Andy Borregales has had the edge on veteran kicker Parker Romo. But on Monday, the two were even on all their attempts.
Borregales and Romo both went 4-for-4 in field goal attempts.
ABSENT: Mack Hollins, Jahlani Tavai, Wes Schweitzer, Myles Battle, Tyrese Robinson
LIMITED: Stefon Diggs, Ja’Lynn Polk, Michael Onwenu, Kyle Dugger, Vederian Lowe, Jared Wilson, Jaquelin Roy, Austin Hooper
Hollins, Tavai, and Battle joined their teammates on the field, but were in street clothes to watch practice from the sidelines. Diggs and Polk took part in individual drills with the other receivers, but worked on routes during the team period.
