The New England Patriots defeated the New York Jets in their only “Thursday Night Football” game of the 2025 season. Many critics dislike football on Thursdays, but Will Campbell didn’t mind.
Per ESPN’s Mike Reiss, the rookie offensive tackle explained why he enjoyed the atypical schedule following New England’s 27-14 win.
“I like the quick turnaround,” Campbell said. “Knock a few out. I’ll probably feel differently about it whenever I’m older, but my body recovers pretty well right now because I’m young.”
“Thursday Night Football” has drawn plenty of disdain over the years from players, coaches and viewers worried about player safety and a diminished product with less time to recover and prepare. It’s not going anywhere, as Amazon Prime Video has a deal to broadcast it through the 2033 season.
Durability hasn’t been an issue so far for Campbell, who leads the NFL with 694 offensive snaps played entering Sunday’s Week 11 slate. The 21-year-old has helped an improved offensive line support a 9-2 start with 26.5 points per game.
A shortened week didn’t seem to deter New England one bit on Thursday. Drake Maye exceeded a 100 quarterback rating for the ninth time this season, and rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson scored three touchdowns in a featured role.
It wasn’t just the young guns who successfully handled the three-day window between games. Stefon Diggs continued his comeback campaign with nine catches for 101 yards.
The Patriots won’t play on Thursday again this season, but they have another upcoming weeknight draw. New England will get an extra day to prepare for a “Monday Night Football” game against the New York Giants in Week 13.
