The New England Patriots’ 2025 draft class has had an up-and-down start.
Offensive linemen Will Campbell and Jared Wilson became day-one starters. TreVeyon Henderson leads the team in rushing, though many fans want to see him take on a higher workload. And Craig Woodson has stepped up in a big way, leading the entire defensive secondary in total snaps played.
But third-round pick Kyle Williams, a wide receiver out of Washington State, has been seldom heard from. The same can be said for every player drafted on day three of the draft, except for kicker Andres Borregales.
As is the case for former LSU standout Bradyn Swinson.
Swinson led the Tigers in multiple statistical categories during his senior year, including tallying 8.5 sacks in 12 games, forcing two fumbles, and registering 12 quarterback hits.
But the 146th overall pick, who experts predicted would be an immediate rotational piece, was cut after training camp but re-signed with the practice. Swinson wasn’t elevated to the gameday roster for any of New England’s first nine games.
But that could change soon after the rookie earned scout-team honors for his work in practice last week.
“OLB/DE Bradyn Swinson (43) earned the ‘show team’ player of the week award for his work leading up to the win over the Falcons,” wrote ESPN’s Mike Reiss on Wednesday. “A reminder that as the Patriots look to generate more pass rush, the fifth-round pick from LSU continues to develop behind the scenes.”
With reports confirming that the Patriots have been hosting tryouts to get free-agent pass rushers in the building, don’t be surprised if head coach Mike Vrabel and his staff turn to players who already have a locker at Gillette Stadium to supplement shortcomings.
