The New England Patriots made several moves in an effort to beef up their offense this offseason. One of those moves saw the front office select wide receiver Kyle Williams in the third round of the 2025 NFL Draft.
Williams starred in college over the past two seasons with the Washington State Cougars. In 2024, he caught 70 passes for 1,198 yards and 14 touchdowns, with the latter two figures both being tops among qualified pass catchers from independent Division I schools.
New England’s selection of Williams with the No. 69 overall pick has been lauded as one of the best selections in the draft, as several talent evaluators believe he can make an immediate impact on their offense.
While Williams is looking to stand out on the field, he was among the crop of rookies who visited the Boston Celtics earlier this week. When asked about his visit, Williams hilariously replied that he was hoping to get a 10-day contract from the 2024 NBA champions.
“I was going out there for a 10-day contract,” Williams said, per Mike Reiss of ESPN. “I tried to get some shoes, but they only start at a 13-and-a-half, which lets you know how big those NBA players truly are.”
“It was a great experience,” Williams added. “Just being able to have two professional teams that have a history of winning, and being able to just share tactics and experiences on how to continue to win, it’s a blessing.”
Williams will be looking to earn snaps in a crowded wide receiver room that features free agent signings Stefon Diggs and Mack Hollins, in addition to holdovers Demario Douglas, Kendrick Bourne, Kayshon Boutte, Ja’Lynn Polk, and Javon Baker.
Given where he was selected in the draft, and the hot start he has enjoyed with his new team so far, Williams could be an immediate contributor for New England. However, they may have to fend off the Celtics, as they could steal him from the Patriots if they wanted to from the sounds of it.
