New England Patriots running back Rhamondre Stevenson could be facing increased competition for touches this season.
The Patriots return dual-threat Antonio Gibson to the backfield and selected TreVeyon Henderson in the second round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Both are expected to see their fair share of playing time in the fall.
Stevenson’s been trending in the wrong direction over the past two seasons too, going from a career-high 5.0 yards per carry in 2022 to 4.0 yards per tote in 2023 and a career-low 3.9 in 2024.
The 27-year-old revealed in an interview with NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport and Mike Garafolo on Thursday that he lost some weight in the offseason and has a lofty goal for his upcoming fifth season.
“#Patriots RB Rhamondre Stevenson joins @RapSheet and me on Inside Training Camp on @nflnetwork. On dropping 10 pounds: ‘I’m trying to unlock breakaway speed’ and ‘having TreVeyon (Henderson) coming in here running a 4.3. Let me get my speed up,'” Garafolo posted on X.
Stevenson may not be the Patriots’ workhorse back in 2025, like he was when he finished 10th in the NFL in touches in 2022 with 279.
If the Las Vegas native can sacrifice some snaps for increased efficiency, however, most fans in New England would take it.
