On this day last year, Tom Brady was inducted into the New England Patriots Hall of Fame at Gillette Stadium, surrounded by many of his former teammates and coaches.

And with that, Robert Kraft made a significant announcement, revealing that not only was the team retiring No. 12, but they would also be honoring him with a statue. Fans have been patiently waiting to find out when that statue would finally be unveiled, and the team officially revealed that information Thursday.

“A legacy etched in bronze forever,” the Patriots posted on X, formerly known as Twitter. “@TomBrady’s statue will be unveiled on 8/8 prior to Patriots vs. Commanders.”

The statue will be 12 feet tall and crafted from bronze.

ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported back in November that the initial plan had been for the Patriots to unveil it for the 2024 home opener against the Seattle Seahawks in Week 2, since Brady was potentially going to be in attendance for the FOX broadcast. However, he was instead assigned the Dallas Cowboys-New Orleans Saints matchup.

The only other opportunity would have been in Week 5 when the Patriots welcomed the Miami Dolphins to Gillette for a game that was on FOX, but because of Tua Tagovailoa’s concussion, they did not get the top broadcast team, which includes Brady.

So, now they have pivoted to 2025 and will be doing it in the preseason. But for a player who won six Super Bowls across his 20-year career in New England, this is certainly the appropriate honor and will further cement him in Patriots history.
