As if losing their Week 3 contest wasn’t bad enough, the New England Patriots have been dealt a pair of blows to their roster early this week, losing linebacker Mark Robinson and offensive lineman Thayer Munford Jr. from their practice squad.

With Robinson getting signed to the New York Jets’ active roster and Munford landing with the Browns, the Patriots suddenly found themselves with a pair of open spots on their practice squad. While nothing has been officially announced, it sounds like they have already found two guys to join their practice squad.

The first move is a reunion for the Pats, as they are reportedly reuniting with tight end Gee Scott Jr., who spent training camp with the team. According to Mike Reiss of ESPN, New England set up a locker for Scott, indicating his signing to the practice squad is imminent.

“A locker is set up for TE Gee Scott (Ohio State) here at Gillette, which indicates he is returning on the practice squad after spending training camp with the team,” Reiss wrote in a post on X. “Related, TE Hunter Henry played through a knee injury in the second half last week.”

The second player coming to town is veteran offensive lineman Royce Newman, who appears to be a direct replacement for Munford. Similar to Scott, Reiss reported that the team had a locker set up for Newman on Wednesday.

“There is a locker for OL Royce Newman here at Gillette, which indicates he will be filling one of the Patriots’ open practice-squad spots,” Reiss wrote on X. “Newman entered the NFL in 2021 as a fourth-round pick of the Packers out of Ole Miss. Time with Green Bay, Tampa Bay and Arizona.”

Both of these moves could be directly related to injuries New England is dealing with. Starting tight end Hunter Henry is dealing with a knee injury, while starting left guard Jared Wilson missed the team’s first practice of the week.

Depending on how these injuries shake out, Scott and Newman could immediately be elevated to the active roster. Of course, it will be worth monitoring the team’s injury report throughout the week, as the team still has two more practices on Thursday and Friday ahead of their upcoming clash with the Carolina Panthers.
