The New England Patriots defeated the Miami Dolphins 33-27 on Sunday, marking the first time in 46 games that the Patriots scored at least 30 points in a contest.

New England last reached the 30-point mark in October 2022. In that game, backup quarterback Bailey Zappe threw for 309 yards and two touchdowns, leading the Patriots to a 38-15 victory over the Cleveland Browns.

The Patriots were scoring in all different kinds of ways on Sunday. Quarterback Drake Maye had an impressive game, throwing for two touchdowns, plus rushing for one.

The special teams also played a vital role, with kicker Andres Borregales successfully converting two field goals and running back Antonio Gibson making waves by returning a kickoff for a stunning 90-yard touchdown.

New England could have scored more points in the contest, but Borregales missed his first two extra-point attempts. However, head coach Mike Vrabel told the media after the game that he still has confidence in his young kicker.

“Gotta have a lot of confidence in him and I do have a lot of confidence in him,” Vrabel said on Sunday. “I didn’t waver.”

The Patriots will host the Pittsburgh Steelers in Week 3, and New England will need another strong performance from Maye, along with several successful kicks from Borregales, to surpass the 30-point mark against a tough Steelers defense.
