The New England Patriots have plenty of hope and optimism coming off of a Super Bowl berth that many saw as ahead of schedule. Now, the Pats are looking to back that up in 2026, and they have taken initiative to do so in their roster building.
On offense, the Patriots have supplemented Drake Maye with a true No. 1 wide receiver, trading for A.J. Brown from the Philadelphia Eagles.
Even if that means Kayshon Boutte is out the door in a possible trade, the Patriots offense should still be better in 2026 with Brown on the outside. However, there is still one big question to answer. Will Campbell is staying at left tackle after a solid rookie season that was tarnished by a disastrous playoff run, leading to questions about a possible position change.
During New England’s OTAs, Campbell sent a message to his haters who didn’t think he would be able to stay at tackle, via Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald.
“Nobody’s a finished product,” Campbell said. “It’s not one specific thing that I’m going to nail. I’ve worked at everything every day. Like I said before, I’m 22. So, I’m a long way from where I’m going to be in the future. So it’s not like I’m great at everything, and there’s one little thing I’m building every day. I’m trying to make everything as a whole better, and by doing my job is doing what the coaches teach and what they’re asking us to do in the specific play at hand.”
During the playoffs, Campbell struggled with some of the best edge rushers in the league such as Odafe Oweh, Will Anderson Jr. and Nik Bonitto, as well as the Seattle Seahawks’ deep edge rusher room. While that wasn’t as big of a concern throughout the regular season, Campbell will have to deal with those kinds of players in the playoffs moving forward.
Whether he has improved in those matchups or not can only be tested at game time. The answer to that question could be the difference between another Super Bowl run and an early playoff flameout.
