The Dallas Cowboys went through a dumpster fire 2024 season. Then, the Cowboys parted ways with Mike McCarthy and made a perplexing decision that made them a laughingstock when they hired Brian Schottenheimer as his replacement.

And that all could prove beneficial to the New England Patriots in one specific way.

Sports Illustrated’s Albert Breer heard rumblings that star linebacker Micah Parsons isn’t exactly the happiest at the moment being with the Cowboys. And with Parsons in line for a massive payday following the 2025 season when he can hit free agency, the Cowboys might look to deal him instead of seeing him walk out the door with nothing in return.

It obviously would cost the Patriots an enormous amount to trade for Parsons. But, it just might be worth it, too.

“There’s been enough noise on Micah Parsons’s relationships inside the Cowboys’ building over the last year to put anyone’s radar up for a trade,” Breer wrote, “with Parsons potentially commanding $40 million per year on a second contract. If you’re willing to pay that, plus high-end picks, for a uniquely talented defensive star … I’d give Dallas a call.”

Parsons, who the Cowboys selected three picks ahead of Mac Jones in the 2021 NFL Draft, already showed through four seasons he is a generational talent on the defensive side of the ball. He is a four-time Pro Bowler and despite just playing in 13 games this past season, Parsons still tallied 43 tackles and 12 sacks.

And the best part? Parsons is just about to enter his prime years as he doesn’t turn 26 until May.

Parsons would easily become New England’s best player on either side and transform their defensive unit, which features below average linebackers. When the Patriots were at their best in their dynastic years, they leaned heavily on game-changing linebackers, whether it was Willie McGinest, Dont’a Hightower or current head coach Mike Vrabel.

Perhaps Vrabel keeps that in mind and has his right-hand man Ryan Cowden get in touch with Jerry Jones. Even if Jones is vehemently against trading, the Patriots still have to check in.

Players like Parsons don’t become available every day.
