It’s time to start sounding the alarms at One Patriot Place.
New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez did not practice on Tuesday, according to media members in attendance at Gillette Stadium. Carlton Davis, his running mate at the position, was also was also missing for the fifth time in the last six sessions.
The Patriots surely aren’t happy with the development. Gonzalez suffered an apparent injury while covering Stefon Diggs during 11-on-11 drills on Monday, walking to the training table with a slight limp before calling it a day early. Davis isn’t on any sort of reserve list, but clearly isn’t at full strength early in camp.
New England was, and still is, expected to rely heavily on that duo to keep things in check on the defensive side of the ball in 2025.
It’s early to completely punt on the season, but the next few weeks will be paramount for the club, as delayed returns for either man could have real repercussions early in the season. The Patriots are rolling with Marcus Jones and Alex Austin as their top options, as of Tuesday.
