The Patriots secured an impressive victory, defeating the New York Jets 27-14 on “Thursday Night Football”. A key factor in New England’s success was the outstanding performance of rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson.

Henderson carried the ball 19 times, accumulating 62 yards and scoring two touchdowns. Additionally, he added a receiving touchdown, which prompted head coach Mike Vrabel to commend his young running back on Monday.

“He had some really good runs,” Vrabel said during WEEI’s “The Greg Hill Show”, via Carlos A. Lopez. “I think that we could block better. He found the end zone, which was really, really important. He’s continued to develop and continued to do a lot of really good things to help.”

The 23-year-old running back has been on fire over the past four games, racking up 339 rushing yards and scoring four touchdowns. Henderson had to rise to the occasion in the last three games, as starting running back Rhamondre Stevenson was out due to a toe injury.

There’s a chance that Stevenson might make his return this week. Vrabel noted on Monday that he expects Stevenson to rejoin practice on Wednesday.

Even if Stevenson does return this week, Henderson proved that he should be the No. 1 starting running back with the way he performed over the last month.
