The New England Patriots managed to edge out the Cincinnati Bengals with a score of 26-20 on Sunday, but it wasn’t the strongest performance from quarterback Drake Maye.
Maye completed 22 of 35 passes, racking up 294 yards, throwing one touchdown, and tossing one interception. Head coach Mike Vrabel didn’t consider it one of Maye’s standout performances.
“Probably mentally, not his best performance, but give him credit,” Vrabel said on Maye’s performance. “I think he came up big with some good throws and I’m sure there’s a couple that he’d like to have back.”
Maye doesn’t have to be perfect every time he steps onto the field, and he certainly wasn’t on Sunday. New England received significant support from its defense, with Marcus Jones intercepting a pass and returning it for a touchdown, while kicker Andres Borregales made four field goals.
The Patriots showed they can win in many ways, which is an excellent sign for a young team without many postseason veterans.
New England will be looking to win its 10th consecutive game when it takes on the New York Giants next Monday night.
