John “Stretch” Streicher is a name that will become familiar to fans of the New England Patriots.

Streicher has held several different roles across the NFL, spending his most recent stops as the Los Angeles Rams’ game management coordinator and the Tennessee Titans’ director of football administration — his third different title with that organization. Mike Vrabel doesn’t appear to trust anyone as much as he does “Stretch” — who he reunited with after hiring him to become the vice president of football operations and strategy at One Patriot Place.

What does any of that mean?

It’ll become evident over the next several months, but Streicher is essentially the new Ernie Adams.

Vrabel has waxed poetic about his longtime right-hand man, and revealed some of his gameday responsibilities on Tuesday — stating that he’ll be on the headset for in-game analytic decisions, according to Doug Kyed of the Boston Herald. Streicher is also expected to be a driving force in clock-management — which essentially means he’ll have a direct line of communication to the head coach.

Yes, that’s important.

Streicher’s past roles have also involved on-field coaching, in-game decision-making and research during offseason roster-building periods like free agency and the draft. Vrabel likes the guy, so get used to hearing and reading his name.
