The New England Patriots took the field on Friday for their final practice before their Week 10 contest against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and when they did, they were sporting a new look that quickly caught folks’ attention.
After the Pats face off against the Bucs, they have a short week on their hands in Week 11. That’s because they will be taking on their AFC East rival, the New York Jets, on Thursday Night Football.
When New England suits up for this game, it will be sporting its new “Rivalries” uniforms for the first time. The uniforms come with new helmets, so with a short week on the horizon, players wore them for the first time in an effort to begin breaking them in.
Teams from the AFC East and NFC West were selected to be the recipients of new “Rivalries” uniforms created as part of the league’s partnership with Nike. Each team will wear the uniforms once during a home game against a division rival. Previously, the Buffalo Bills wore their new unis in Week 5 when they hosted the Patriots.
New England’s “Nor’Easter” jerseys feature a dark blue shirt with silver pants and white helmets. The initial reception to these jerseys was mixed, but it’s tough to make a full judgment until they are seen on the field.
First, the Patriots have to get through a tough matchup against the Buccaneers. Kickoff for this highly anticipated contest is scheduled for 1 p.m. ET on Sunday afternoon, with New England looking to earn its seventh-straight victory.
