The New England Patriots made a flurry of moves Tuesday afternoon as cutdown day draws closer.
The Pats signed running back Micah Bernard and defensive tackle Philip Blidi. They released cornerback Tre Avery and defensive end Jereme Robinson, as well.
Bernard is an undrafted rookie who signed with the Titans in May but was released in June. A Utah product, he had 2,298 yards rushing with 11 touchdowns in his college career.
Blidi’s NFL route to date is similar to Bernard’s. Undrafted out of Auburn, Blidi joined the Titans in May, but wasn’t cut loose until Sunday. He had stints at Texas Tech and Indiana before playing one season with the Tigers.
At this juncture, Bernard and Blidi are all but certainly there just to round out the roster for Thursday’s preseason finale against the Giants — a game that typically sees reserves play almost exclusively as roster battles wind down. Still, with solid performances they could stay on the radar for practice squad spots in New England or elsewhere.
Avery and Robinson both were recent additions to the Patriots.
Avery joined the Patriots on August 5, one day after getting cut by the 49ers. He spent two years on the Titans active roster from 2022-24 before being relegated to the practice squad.
Robinson signed with the Patriots on August 10. An undrafted rookie, Robinson signed with the Bears before they released him in July. He spent his college career at Kansas.
