Hamilton becomes the fourth known candidate.

The New England Patriots coaching search continued on Tuesday as the team held longtime coach Pep Hamilton for an interview, the team has since confirmed.

Hamilton, 50, has not coached since 2022 when he last served as the Houston Texans offensive coordinator. His coaching career began back in 1997 where he has long worked with quarterbacks on the offensive side of the football.

After serving as a positional coach and college coordinator to start his career, Hamilton’s first play calling experience at the NFL level came in 2013. He served as the Indianapolis Colts offensive coordinator where he reunited with quarterback Andrew Luck, whom he previously coached at the University of Stanford.

Holding that role for three seasons, Hamilton then went on to serve as the Cleveland Browns assistant head coach and quarterbacks coach for one season. He then went back to the collegiate level at the University of Michigan before joining the XFL’s DC Defenders as their head coach in general manager in 2020.

Returning to the NFL level in 2020, Hamilton served as the Chargers quarterbacks coach in 2020 — where Justin Herbert won NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year — before joining the Texans the following season.

Hamilton’s work with young quarterbacks could make him an attractive candidate for the Patriots with Drake Maye and Joe Milton, who Hamilton worked with before last year’s draft.

In addition to Hamilton, the Patriots also announced they completed an interview with former Buccaneers offensive coordinator Byron Leftwich on Tuesday — which gave New England compliance with the Rooney Rule.

New England is additionally expected to interview Mike Vrabel and current Lions offensive coordinator Ben Johnson.
