Marcus Brady played 7 years in the Canadian Football League and has coached in the NFL since 2018, beginning with the Colts as their assistant QBs Coach.

On Saturday evening, NFL insider Ian Rapoport reported that Chargers passing game coordinator Marcus Brady was interviewed by the Patriots for their offensive coordinator opening under new head coach Mike Vrabel.

Brady just finished his first season as a member of the Chargers and his seventh as a NFL coach. He began his time in the NFL as the assistant quarterbacks coach for the Colts and worked his way to offensive coordinator in Indianapolis (2021-2022) in just three seasons. During the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Brady spent time with the Eagles as an offensive and senior offensive assistant.

Justin Herbert did not have his most productive season throwing the football (3,870 yards) but he certainly had his most efficient when it came not turning the ball over as he threw just three interceptions during the regular season compared to 23 touchdown passes.

With Jim Harbaugh and Greg Roman leaning heavily into their ideal identity as a run-first offense, Herbert got off to a slow start, failing to notch 200 or more passing yards through the team’s first five games. From their sixth game and on, Herbert only failed to throw for 200+ just twice through the remainder of the season. He twice went over 300 yards and just once logged a game with three or more touchdown passes.

Patriots rookie quarterback Drake Maye has a few similarities with Herbert, notably their frame and physical makeup as tall, big-armed quarterbacks with enough wiggle to utilize their legs in a pinch. In the end, it’s hard not to connect some of those dots as to why Brady would intrigue the new Patriots regime.
