New England Patriots rookie running back TreVeyon Henderson had the best game of his young career in Week 10, helping lead the team to a 28-23 road win against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Henderson is currently the only healthy running back on the roster, however, and the Patriots could use some help in the backfield.
Starter Rhamondre Stevenson has missed the last two games with a toe injury. Pass-catching and return specialist Antonio Gibson is out for the year due to a torn ACL and second-year pro Terrell Jennings exited Sunday’s win early with a knee issue.
ESPN’s Mike Reiss broke down the running backs situation on Monday morning and floated a potential reunion with 29-year-old JaMycal Hasty, who is currently on the Miami Dolphins’ practice squad.
“Personnel-wise, RB a key spot to assess/potentially act on with the quick turnaround to Thursday. The summary:” Reiss posted on Bluesky. “… NOTES: Took a quick scan through opposing teams’ practice squads on flight home and wondered if SOS call to someone like JaMycal Hasty (Miami) might be a consideration.”
The insider added that New England has to be “cognizant of overuse of Henderson (101 snaps in last 2 games; similar situation that led to Stevenson injury).”
Hasty was included in the Patriots’ final round of cuts in late August and signed with the Dolphins’ practice squad two days later.
The Baylor product played two years with the San Francisco 49ers to start his career, recording 55 carries for 216 yards and two touchdowns across 19 games. Hasty posted career highs with the Jacksonville Jaguars in 2022 in rushing attempts (46), rushing yards (194) and rushing touchdowns (two).
He began the 2023 campaign with the Jaguars but was waived that November and promptly claimed by New England. After playing just two games with the Patriots in 2023, Hasty registered 20 carries for 69 scoreless yards and added 10 catches for 59 yards and one touchdown last season.
The sixth-year pro hasn’t appeared in any games with Miami this season.
