Patriots injury update: Running back group gets good news for Jets game

The New England Patriots are banged up at running back, but they received some good news ahead of their Week 11 clash with the New York Jets.

Terrell Jennings, who was listed as questionable entering the game, is expected to be ready to play on Thursday Night Football. Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was first to report the update.

Jennings, 24, got hurt in the first quarter of last Sunday’s win over the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and had to leave the game after just four carries. He was eventually ruled out for the remainder of the contest due to a knee injury, and was a limited practice participant throughout the week.

Him being available for the game against the visiting Jets is good news for a Patriots running back group already missing Rhamondre Stevenson (toe) and Antonio Gibson (knee/IR). While the bulk of the work is still expected to go to second-round rookie TreVeyon Henderson, who finished the game against Tampa with a career-best 147 yards and two touchdowns, Jennings provides valuable depth behind him.

In addition to those two, the Patriots also have potential elevation candidate D’Ernest Johnson on their practice squad. The group is rounded out by fellow practice squad backs Rushawn Baker and Jonathan Ward.

The Patriots had a total of six players listed on their injury report heading into Thursday. Besides Jennings, defensive tackle Joshua Farmer is also questionable. Meanwhile, Stevenson will be joined on the inactives list by wide receiver Kayshon Boutte, tight end Austin Hooper and linebacker Christian Elliss.

Kickoff between the Patriots and Jets at Gillette Stadium is set for 8:15 p.m. ET.
