The New England Patriots clinched a playoff spot for the first time in four years with Sunday’s victory over the Baltimore Ravens.
Stefon Diggs, K’Lavon Chaisson and Rhamondre Stevenson , who all played a pivotal role in the victory, weren’t event aware of the magnitude of the result, as shared by MassLive’s Mark Daniels.
“We did, or we didn’t?” Diggs said when informed about clinching a playoff spot.
“I don’t know. We ain’t thinking about that,” Diggs said. “You take it one game at a time, that stuff will figure itself out. But obviously, you work hard for that. But we aiming for it. I’m aiming for it. I’ve been in the playoffs a lot, so I just wanted to bring this team along. I know it’s been a rough couple of seasons, but they have all the talent, they got all the potential. So we just trying to see through that potential and help things or see things come to fruition.”
Patriots head coach Mike Vrabel has been clear that his team’s primary goal is to win the AFC East — which would allow them to not only knock the Buffalo Bills off their perch but also allow them to host a playoff game at Gillette Stadium.
“I think it was good to be in a game like this,” Vrabel said following the game, as transcribed by New England Football Journal. “I felt like it was a big team win. It was a huge team win… a lot of guys went down, a lot of guys stepped up. We’re going to have to get healthy, but I thought this was a great win for us.”
Drake Maye carried the same attitude , reiterating that there are still things to accomplish.
“It’s still what we’re fighting for,” Maye said. “It’s nice to be in the playoffs, but we still want to win the division.”
