New England Patriots legend Devin McCourty hopes that one day a statue of Bill Belichick will stand in Foxboro.

With Tom Brady’s bronze likeness now greeting fans outside Gillette Stadium, attention has quickly shifted to whether the Patriots’ legendary head coach will get the same treatment.

McCourty made his feelings clear during an appearance on WEEI’s Greg Hill Show Thursday, saying he believes Belichick’s legacy warrants the honor.

“Man, I sure hope so,” McCourty said, as transcribed by Tom Carrol of WEEI, when asked if he believes Belichick deserves the honor. He noted that Belichick’s impact on game plans, defensive philosophy and the organization’s sustained success should be immortalized, adding that time may soften any tensions between Belichick and the Kraft family.

The eight-time Super Bowl winner — six as head coach in New England — parted ways with the Patriots in January 2024, ending a 24-season run.

Many fans believe that regardless of the tense manner with which the split unfolded, statues of both Belichick and Robert Kraft are likely at some point, given their combined role in building one of the NFL’s greatest dynasties.

Belichick has shown deep appreciation for McCourty as well. Upon the safety’s retirement in 2023, the coach called him “a pillar of professionalism, unselfishness, work ethic, preparation, intelligence and performance,” praising his leadership and the way he elevated those around him, as transcribed by WBZ News.

McCourty’s 13-year career with the Patriots included three Super Bowl titles, two Pro Bowl nods and recognition as a 12-time team captain. He and Belichick remain connected through those championship runs, a shared history McCourty believes should be celebrated in bronze.

Belichick will begin his first college season at North Carolina on Labor Day against TCU, but his NFL legacy is cemented.

For McCourty, it is simple: if Brady’s statue stands as a testament to two decades of dominance, so too should Belichick’s.
