The New England Patriots received some (relatively) good injury news on Tuesday.

Patriots linebacker Jahlani Tavai suffered what sounded like a serious injury at practice just one day prior, leaving the session after remaining down for an extended period during team drills. New England’s coaches reportedly shut the music off, while teammates kneeled around him and offered their support before Jabrill Peppers and Mike Onwenu eventually helped him off the field.

It’s not as serious as we all thought, though.

ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported on Tuesday that the veteran linebacker will be sidelined until training camp, which might not sound positive, but is a welcome development considering he could only put minimal pressure on his leg when leaving the field.

Tavai’s value comes in the fact that he can play both on and off the ball, with other members of the linebacking corps like Jack Gibbens, Robert Spillane and Christian Elliss primarily spending their time in the middle of the defense. ESPN’s Mike Reiss reported that he had primarily been playing alongside Spillane during the spring, though.

The Patriots will return to a full-time practice schedule next week.
