The New England Patriots are catching the Miami Dolphins at an opportune time heading into the two teams’ Week 2 clash. The Dolphins aren’t exactly a unified front right now. Head coach Mike McDaniel is widely reported to be on the hot seat. Star receiver Tyreek Hill has been seeing the writing on the wall and wants out. Yikes.

Oh, and we didn’t mention that the Dolphins were crushed by Daniel Jones and the Indianapolis Colts in Week 1, 33-8. ESPN’s Jeremy Fowler revealed that suitors for Hill have been calling Miami, but the Dolphins still want to keep him.

Hill told the media after Miami’s last game of the 2024 season that he wanted to be traded. Shortly after, Drew Rosenhaus (Hill’s agent) attempted to smooth things over in the public eye by declaring that Hill was still committed to the Dolphins (yeah, okay).

Hill followed that up with an apology one month later, but it likely fell on deaf ears in Miami’s locker room. He was not named a captain for the 2025 season, after being one in years prior for Miami.

It’s tough to believe that Hill wants to stay in Miami at this point, especially with how the Dolphins looked in Week 1. QB Tua Tagovailoa didn’t look great, and he was only able to get Hill the ball four times for 40 yards.

Hill, 31, still has a few years of his prime left. He’s an explosive wideout who could still do a ton of damage in the right offensive system, and with a competent quarterback. Why waste these years if a trade is possible?

Sunday’s battle against the Patriots is an important game for the Dolphins, and for Hill’s and McDaniel’s futures with the organization. If the Dolphins are handled by New England, the bad vibes will only get more poisonous in Miami. On the other hand, a dominant performance over the Patriots could make Miami’s naysayers hesitate for a moment.
