Drake Maye is locked in a fierce battle for NFL MVP, going head-to-head with Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford.
Heading into Monday night’s game, Maye held the second-best odds to win the MVP award at +200, trailing only Stafford, according to FanDuel.
However, Stafford’s performance against the Atlanta Falcons on “Monday Night Football” moved the odds in Maye’s favor. Stafford threw for 269 yards and two touchdowns to three interceptions in a 27-24 loss.
Currently, Maye is the clear favorite to win MVP at -550, while Stafford is lagging with odds of +440.
Stafford’s rough performance couldn’t have come at a worse time since Maye was on a mission during the Patriots’ 42-10 victory over the New York Jets on Sunday. Maye completed 19 of 21 passes for 256 yards and five touchdowns.
There’s a possibility that Stafford won’t take the field in Week 18, given that the Rams can’t win the NFC West and are already locked into a wild card spot.
However, if the San Francisco 49ers lose to the Seattle Seahawks on Saturday, the Rams could secure the No. 5 seed in the playoffs with a victory over the Cardinals. But if the 49ers win, the Rams will be locked into the No. 6 seed regardless of the outcome against Arizona.
