The New England Patriots have a lot of new faces in town on the defensive side of the ball. Terrell Williams is leading the way as the defensive coordinator, and one of his former players, Harold Landry III, also found his way to the Patriots this offseason.
Landry was New England’s first big free signing, as the team handed him a three-year, $43.5 million contract. With his addition, the Pats are hoping to have landed a new star pass rusher who can consistently get to the quarterback.
Before landing with the Patriots, Landry spent six seasons with the Tennessee Titans, where he played for Landry and New England’s new head coach, Mike Vrabel. While Landry enjoyed a lot of success with the Titans, Williams believes he is playing with an extra fire in training camp right now.
“Patriots DC Terrell Williams: Harold Landry looks like a guy with something to prove. Landry has looked rejuvenated so far in camp,” Andrew Callahan of the Boston Herald shared in a post on X.
In 2021, Landry earned his first and only Pro Bowl selection when he racked up 75 tackles, 12 sacks, and one fumble forced in 17 games of action. He missed the entire 2022 campaign with a torn ACL, and he has spent the past two seasons working on getting himself back on track.
With New England, Landry is entering the season as the team’s top pass rusher. Considering how Keion White and Deatrich Wise Jr. tied for the team lead with five sacks, it’s safe to say that Landry is going to be counted on to help the Patriots pressure the quarterback more in 2025.
Wise departed in free agency this offseason, but the Pats also brought in guys like Milton Williams and Robert Spillane to reinforce their front seven on defense. If everything comes together as planned, this unit could be quite dangerous, and while the regular season hasn’t begun yet, Williams likes what he has seen from Landry in the early going.
