The entire Patriots family had a big scare on Monday. Defensive coordinator Terrell Williams collapsed during Monday’s practice, but was able to get up under his own power before taking the cart to the locker room.
Many feared that Williams’ collapse was related to a recent unspecified health issue that kept him away from the team for a few months this summer. Back in May, it was announced that Williams was back home in Detroit taking care of a medical issue. The coach reportedly stayed in contact with the team and attended Zoom meeting during his time away.
Williams was back with the team for the start of training camp, though, and things appeared to be heading in the right direction. That’s why it was so concerning to see Williams collapse on Monday, but we know have an encouraging update.
Per reports, Williams’ incident on Monday was NOT related to his prior health scare and was instead simply a case of dehydration.
Patriots defensive coordinator Terrell Williams was treated for dehydration at today’s practice. He left practice midway through with the help of medical staff as part of taking extra precaution.

Most importantly, Williams was back at practice on Tuesday and appeared to be in good spirits. It’s a good sign that the Monday incident was not related to the prior health scare, and hopefully Williams can put all of this behind him.
The coach is in his first season as the defensive coordinator in Foxboro. Williams previously worked with Mike Vrabel from 2018-23 with the Tennessee Titans, serving as the defensive line coach and later assistant head coach. Now, the duo is reunited and hoping to improve a Patriots’ defense that disappointed in 2024.
