New England Patriots cornerback Christian Gonzalez wants to return to the field — it just isn’t his choice.
Gonzalez, speaking with reporters prior to the start of practice on Wednesday, discussed head coach Mike Vrabel’s decision to keep him sidelined for the club’s Week 3 matchup with the Pittsburgh Steelers.
“I was upset, but sometimes you gotta look at yourself and make sure you’re all the way ready,” Gonzalez said. “You know, hamstrings are a tough, tough injury. It’s a tough spot.”
Gonzalez did make it clear that he wanted to play, which is something he wanted to point out due to a narrative that has started to form surrounding his lengthy absence — which has stretched beyond seven weeks.
“Of course. I never don’t want to play,” Gonzalez said, per CLNS Media. “So, that narrative that’s out there, I don’t know where people get it from but all I want to do is play football. It didn’t really disappoint me. It’s from a lot of people that never stepped foot on a football field.”
The Patriots reportedly have grown frustrated with the third-year cornerback, which might be the narrative he was referring to. New England is hoping to put everything behind itself when they host the Carolina Panthers in Week 4.
