One thing Bill Belichick hated throughout his legendary tenure as New England Patriots head coach was distractions.

But ahead of his first season in Chapel Hill, the future Pro Football Hall of Famer is turning himself into a sideshow.

Belichick recently went viral for his absolutely bizarre interview with “CBS Mornings.” Aside from a few incredibly awkward answers, the cringeworthy sit-down made it seem as though Jordon Hudson, Belichick’s 24-year-old girlfriend, could be a consistent source of drama.

The media storm prompted former Patriots linebacker Ted Johnson to suggest a very, very bold move for the North Carolina Tar Heels.

“I say all that to say this: That I think the Carolina Tar Heels should consider firing Bill Belichick,” Johnson said Tuesday on WEEI, as transcribed by Boston.com. “They should consider letting him go at this point. It’s a lot of money, and they’re deep into their preparation for next year.

“But I look at Bill Belichick and I wonder if he’s fit to coach an NFL team, let alone fit to coach a college team, which, again, I put more onus on the character and personality of a college coach than I do a pro coach. So, I’m worried that Bill Belichick just isn’t fit to coach college kids, and UNC should consider cutting ties with Bill Belichick.”

It’s doubtful that North Carolina will show Belichick the door before the 2025 college football season begins. That said, in wake of recent events, it’s far to wonder if the Tar Heels have even minor regrets about hitching their wagon to the polarizing coach.
