The Patriots have begun assembling their staff under new head coach Mike Vrabel.
Since the end of the 2024 season and the firing of head coach Jerod Mayo, the New England Patriots completely rebuilt their staff. The first and biggest domino to fall was hiring Mike Vrabel as Mayo’s successor and the 16th head coach in franchise history.
Since Vrabel was introduced, he filled out his staff one piece at a time — starting at the coordinator level and working his way to the coaching assistants and support staff. On Wednesday, that process reached its end: the Patriots officially announced their coaching staff for the 2025 season.
Starting with Vrabel, it looks as follows:
Head coach: Mike Vrabel
Offensive coordinator: Josh McDaniels
Quarterbacks coach: Ashton Grant
Running backs coach: Tony Dews
Wide receivers coach: Todd Downing
Tight ends coach/Passing game coordinator: Thomas Brown
Offensive line coach: Doug Marrone
Assistant offensive line coach: Jason Houghtaling
Assistant offensive line coach: Robert Kugler
Offensive assistant: Riley Larkin
Offensive assistant: Chuckie Keeton
Defensive coordinator: Terrell Williams
Defensive line coach: Clint McMillan
Outside linebackers coach: Mike Smith
Inside linebackers coach: Zak Kuhr
Cornerbacks coach: Justin Hamilton
Safeties coach: Scott Booker
Defensive assistant: Vinny DePalma
Defensive assistant: Kevin Richardson
Defensive assistant: Milton Patterson
Senior defensive assistant: Ben McAdoo
Special teams coordinator: Jeremy Springer
Assistant special teams coach: Tom Quinn
While most of the Patriots’ coaching staff was already known, only four roles had been officially confirmed and announced by the team: Vrabel, plus Josh McDaniels, Terrell Williams and Jeremy Springer as his coordinators. Now, the full group around those four men is known as well— and it is one that offers plenty of experience from the head coach down, as well as some younger assistants particularly on the defensive side of the ball.
Vice president of football operations and strategy: John Streicher
Director of sports performance: Frank Piraino
Strength and conditioning coach: Deron Mayo
Assistant strength and conditioning coach: Brian McDonough
Besides their coaching staff, the Patriots also filled some roles on their support staff, starting with John Streicher — a long-time Vrabel assistant and confidante — as vice president of football operations and strategy. In addition, the team hired Frank Piraino to oversee its sports performance program while retaining both Deron Mayo and Brian McDonough as strength and conditioning coaches.
