The sticker shock is still wearing off from the New England Patriots’ blockbuster trade with the Philadelphia Eagles for A.J. Brown, and he got to talk to the media on Thursday after mandatory minicamp. Brown talked about many things, including his budding relationship with Drake Maye. But he also addressed some things about his exit from Philly.
After the trade, it was reported that Brown left a message to the Eagles.
“The best to ever play here. Always open,” Brown said.
On Thursday at minicamp, Brown was asked about that message, but he didn’t have much to say, via Mark Daniels of MassLive.
“I’m not gonna get into that,” Brown said, per Daniels. “I appreciated my time in Philly. I’m where my feet are. That’s the only thing that matters.”
It’s clear that Brown is no longer focused on his past with the Eagles and is ready to move forward as a Patriot, but that doesn’t mean that the former All-Pro wideout was wrong about what he supposedly said. After all, that’s why the Patriots went out and paid a steep price to acquire him.
Moving on to his Patriots future, Brown couldn’t stop gushing about star quarterback Drake Maye after practicing with him for a few days. While the talent of Maye obviously sticks out to any new addition, his ability to handle the mental burden of playing quarterback so effortlessly is what really impressed Brown.
Maye was already one of the best quarterbacks in all of football last season. He came within just a few votes of winning the MVP award in just his second season, so it’s clear that he was doing just fine without a star wide receiver. However, now that he has one, the Pats could have one of the top passing games in the NFL.
Brown and Maye are already building chemistry this offseason, and they have many months to fine-tune things before the season gets going. That should scare everyone who has to play the Patriots this fall.
