With star wide receiver A.J. Brown on the New England Patriots roster, the player is starting to get adjusted to his new team, and especially his new quarterback, Drake Maye. As the Patriots’ connection between Maye and Brown will be crucial this upcoming season, the pass-catcher spoke Thursday on his first impressions of the young signal-caller.
Speaking to the media on Thursday, Brown would be asked about Maye, who is entering his third season in the NFL after throwing for 4,394 yards to go along with 31 touchdowns and eight interceptions. Brown would say that besides the physical talent he has, the mental side of the game and being a “true leader of men” have impressed him the most, according to Mark Daniels.
“The talent speaks for itself, you know,” Brown said. “He can make any throw, but I think what’s more impressive to me is that he knows what he’s doing, and to be that young, and to understand the defense, and to understand every little check, the hots, the blitz, and all those things, so young and so fast, it’s very impressive. So I really admire that he knows what he’s talking about, he demands everybody else to know as well, you know, and he’s a true leader, he’s a true leader of men, and it’s, and it’s crazy to see at a young age, you know, he’s a true leader of men.”

After being heavily rumored for so long, Brown is finally with the Patriots after being with the Philadelphia Eagles for the last four seasons. In exchange, the Eagles acquired a 2028 first-round pick and a 2027 fifth-round pick, whereas New England gets Maye, a top target at wide receiver, especially after cutting Stefon Diggs.
Brown has been considered one of the top players in his position, recording over 1,000 yards in every season he’s played at least 14 games. At any rate, it remains to be seen how the connection between Maye and Brown will be as Week 1 is on Sept. 9 against the Seattle Seahawks in a Super Bowl rematch.
