Cameras caught Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes working on a new trick play during practice, as if he’s not hard enough for opposing defenses to contain.

Mahomes and the Chiefs are looking to avenge a tough 40-22 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in Super Bowl 59. Mahomes stood no chance against Philly’s vaunted defense, throwing three touchdowns (albeit in garbage time) and two interceptions while taking six sacks and losing one fumble.

The last time Patrick Mahomes lost in a Super Bowl (to Tom Brady’s Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55), he rebounded by leading KC to three straight AFC Championship Game appearances and two Super Bowl wins (in 2022 and 2023).

So yes, there’s plenty of motivation and determination on Mahomes’ end to avenge the crushing Super Bowl loss.

Cameras caught the three-time Super Bowl champion working on another crafty trick play to add to his repertoire: A fake behind-the-back pass while being rushed by an opposing defender:

Now, imagine if Patrick Mahomes can perfect that before the regular season begins.

Patrick Mahomes & Chiefs Open 2025 Season vs. Chargers

Mahomes and the defending AFC champions will begin their 2025 season against the Los Angeles Chargers on Sept. 5. The game will be held at Arena Corinthians in São Paulo, Brazil, the first game of the 2025 NFL International Series.

The 29-year-old Mahomes has won his last seven games against the Chargers. Los Angeles had the No. 1 defense under Jim Harbaugh last year, so we’ll see if the unit can finally solve Mahomes when they meet in an early can’t-miss contest.
