Travis Kelce is playing another year in the NFL, and based on what Patrick Mahomes just said, this might not be his last.
The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback spoke from the team’s OTAs in preparation for 2025. The subject of Kelce’s future came up while Mahomes was at the podium.
As Kelce nears his 36th birthday, fans and analysts alike have speculated whether this season could be his final one. But according to Mahomes, the future Hall of Famer isn’t showing any signs of slowing down — mentally or physically.
“If it’s the last ride, you never know,” Mahomes declared about Travis Kelce.
Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes says no one can guess if Travis Kelce would retire after 2025 season

“The way he’s talking about football, he’s trying to be even better than he was last year. He doesn’t seem like a guy who if it’s his last ride he’s tired of the job,” he continued.
Mahomes added: “I know his body feels good, it feels better than even last year. He’s motivated to go out there and have an even better year than last.”
The 35-year-old is coming back for another season after the bitter end to 2024.
Travis Kelce made it clear in March that he still loves playing football and believes he can continue playing at a high level.
“I think the biggest thing is that I (expletive) love playing the game of football,” Kelce said. “I love playing. I still feel like I can play it at a high level and possibly at a higher level than I did last year. I don’t think it was my best outing.”
Following the Kansas City Chiefs’ disappointing Super Bowl loss to the Philadelphia Eagles in February, Travis Kelce began to mull over retirement.
The 35-year-old is a three-time Super Bowl champion with more than 1,000 receptions, 12,151 yards, and a string of league records to his name.
Kelce has confirmed he will return for at least one more NFL season. This will be Kelce’s 12th season as the Chiefs’ starting tight end. He had career-low marks in receiving yards (823) and touchdowns (3) last season.
Every athlete would love to go out on top.
Kansas City will again enter the 2025 season as a top-end Super Bowl contender, and Kelce will remain a big reason.
