Patrick Mahomes has opened up on what his relationship with Tom Brady is like at the moment.
Brady is, of course, the standard all quarterbacks chase – and Mahomes is the signal-caller who is the closest to catching his legacy, having already won three Super Bowls. Had it not been for an incredible defensive feat from the Eagles in this year’s big game, he would be on four right now.
Fortunately for Patrick, he no longer has to worry about playing against TB12. The latter is now retired and has transitioned to broadcasting and ownership. His moves have allowed him to serve as a mentor to many players, including Mahomes.
The Kansas City Chiefs QB spoke to Kay Adams on her ‘Up & Adamas’ show this week, sounding off on their relationship and revealing that they have spoken a lot this offseason.
“And having Tom, a guy like that say that, just motivates me even more,” he told his host. “I’ve actually talked to Tom a good amount this offseason.
Mahomes also praised Brady for going the extra mile, admitting that the seven-time Super Bowl winner “doesn’t have to be like that.”
“He’s such a good dude,” he added. “And I have so much respect for him, and I’ll take any advice he gives me.”
Patrick Mahomes didn’t share any details of the many conversations he’s had with Brady this year, telling Adams he has to keep the secrets while still sharing that he’s encouraged to keep being himself.
But we do know that the QB is out for a revenge season after getting shown up in the Super Bowl in February.
The Chiefs were on the cusp of an unprecedented threepeat, but Philly’s game planning, especially on the defensive side of the ball, made the game one of the most lopsided in recent memory as they had no idea what hit them and didn’t even get on the scoreboard until the third quarter when the result was already decided.
“I’ve got to keep the secrets, you know?” Mahomes said. “But he always talks about being yourself. He thinks that— which I truly believe, too— is that guys can spot when you’re not authentic, and you’re not putting in the work.”
As to whether the advice works remains to be seen.
