Three-time Super Bowl winning Kansas City Chiefs quarterback Patrick Mahomes tore his ACL on Sunday against the Los Angeles Chargers, adding literal injury to an already insulting season that saw the future Hall of Famer miss the playoff for the first time in his career.
“So this is crazy… both Tom Brady and Patrick Mahomes won 3 Super Bowls early in their careers and then tore their ACLs in their 9th seasons with both teams missing the playoffs that year,” former ESPN stalwart Trey Wingo shared on Sunday.

As you’ll likely remember, the second half of Brady’s career was arguably more impressive than the first, as he began to rely more on his brain than his throwing ability.
From 2000 to 2007, Brady had a passer rating of 92.9 with 26,370 yards, 197 touchdowns and 86 interceptions in 112 games. After his ACL tear in the first week of the 2008 season, Brady returned in 2009 and played until2023, and had a passer rating of 99.0 with 62,768 yards, 452 touchdowns and 126 interceptions in 222 games.
