ESPN’s Pat McAfee used a bizarre and cringeworthy two-word term to introduce Seattle Mariners All-Star catcher Cal Raleigh at Monday’s Home Run Derby.
Cal Raleigh is one of eight participants in this year’s Home Run Derby, held at Truist Park, the Atlanta Braves’ home venue. James Wood (Washington Nationals), Byron Buxton (Minnesota Twins), Jazz Chisholm Jr. (New York Yankees), Matt Olson (Atlanta), Brent Rooker (Athletics), Junior Caminero (Tampa Bay Rays) and Oneil Cruz (Pittsburgh Pirates) are the other seven participants.
Pat McAfee and Ty Schmidt introduced each of the eight participants on the diamond. When it came to introducing the Mariners’ superstar, McAfee referred to his new “Big Dumper” nickname.

ESPN lets the popular sports media personality get away with his fair share of swear words and vulgar language on “The Pat McAfee Show,” but we wouldn’t be surprised if they had a talk with him after this.
After all, the Home Run Derby is largely geared to be family-friendly.
Teoscar Hernández of the Los Angeles Dodgers won last year’s Home Run Derby, with Toronto Blue Jays superstar Vladimir Guerrero Jr. claiming the crown a year earlier. Several of baseball’s top stars declined to participate in this year’s event.
In 2023, McAfee managed to get out of his deal with FanDuel TV to sign a lucrative five-year, $85 million contract with the Worldwide Leader in Sports.
Pat McAfee began his tenure with ESPN in Sept. 2023, in time for the start of the new NFL season. He also works on their “College GameDay” show and continues to make occasional appearances for WWE.
With the 2025 NCAA football and NFL campaigns approaching, the former NFL punter is about to get a lot busier.
