Passing Reggie White: Browns DE Myles Garrett on the cusp of something great
Dawgs By Nature Dawgs By Nature

When the Cleveland Browns selected DE Myles Garrett with the first overall pick in the 2017 NFL draft, it was seen as a no-brainer. Little did anyone know that a potential GOAT quarterback was in that same draft, QB Patrick Mahomes, but, at the time, Garrett was the sure thing, “everyone would take him first” player in that draft class.

Since then, Garrett has been everything he was advertised to be coming out of college.

According to a large sample of league personnel, Garrett is by far the best defensive ends in the NFL in his ninth season in the league. In eight and a half years, Garrett has amassed an amazing resume:

  • 107.5 sacks
  • 126 tackles for loss
  • 210 QB hits
  • 20 forced fumbles
  • 17 passes defended
  • 6 fumble recoveries
  • 2023 Defensive Player of the Year
  • 6 All-Pro teams, including four on the first team
  • 6 Pro Bowls
  • Top 10 finish in the MVP race of 2023

With 10 games left in the 2025 regular season, Garrett is likely to add to must or all of those categories before his ninth season is complete. The Texas A&M star is also likely to pass Hall of Famer and all-time great Reggie White for the most sacks before turning 30 years old.

White had 108 before hitting his fourth decade on Earth.

Garrett turns 30 on December 29th of this year, giving him over two months to pass White’s impressive record. He noted the potential of the honor, but his focus continues to be on the team winning games:

The Browns take on the New England Patriots in Week 8 of the 2025 NFL regular season. QB Drake Maye has been very good this season, but has also been sacked 22 times in seven contests. Cleveland will need Garrett to be impactful if they have a chance to pull off the upset on the road this week. If that impact includes passing White’s mark, all the better.
