A well timed bye-week has an almost entirely healthy Carolina Panthers ready to take on the last quarter of their 2025 regular season schedule. At 7-6, they have the slimmest grasp on first place in the NFC South with three divisional games left to play. First of those is today against the New Orleans Saints who upset the Panthers 17-7 in Week 10 in the last game Carolina was favored in.
After their own shocking Week 13 upset of the Los Angeles Rams, the Panthers are once again favored over the Saints. Is this a shot at redemption? An omen of past horrors set to revisit? Who knows? The Panthers are often followed by words like “chaos” and “roller-coaster” for good reason. There successes and failures seem independent of—or at best inversely proportional to—outside expectations.
Whether the Panthers crush the Saints, take them to overtime, or suffer an embarrassing sweep is as unpredictable now as the actual outcome will feel as if it were inevitable come this evening. After thirty years of this kind of momentum and destiny, I guess that’s why we’re all here.
