Panthers 2025 season opener countdown: 16 days to go

Hello CSR! Happy Friday! We’re continuing our countdown to the start of the Carolina Panthers 2025 season opener, and that means we’ll highlight number 16 on the roster: quarterback Jack Plummer.

Jack Plummer (no relation to Jake Plummer) joined the Panthers as an undrafted free agent out of Louisville in the 2024 Offseason. He served as an extra arm during that Offseason, played in their preseason games, and ended up being added to the practice squad after being waived during 53 man roster cuts.

Plummer returned to the Panthers again this off-season, serving as the de facto 3rd QB behind Bryce Young and Andy Dalton. He’s mostly filled the same role as the guy playing the preseason games once the starters come out and the coaches allow the depth guys to fight for their spot. He’s coming off a performance where he completed 7 of 14 passes for 48 yards, 1 TD, and 1 INT in a half of football last night.

I expect Plummer to remain with the practice squad in 2025, though Bryce Perkins might have made a decent case to replace him last night as well. The former UDFA has the advantage as far as knowing the playbook and having been around since the start of the Dave Canales era. However, if he’s playing any stretch of time in Carolina in 2025, I would expect the Panthers to not do so great. This is not necessarily a slight against him, as he threw for over 3k yards and 21 TDs in his final two college seasons at TCU and then Louisville in college. But the Panthers clearly aren’t looking for him to contribute, since they have the aforementioned Bryce Young starting and veteran Andy Dalton as his clear backup.

Tell me your thoughts on Plummer/the backup QB situation. AND KEEP POUNDING!
