Hello CSR! We’re 14 Days away from the start of the Carolina Panthers regular season. That means it’s time to highlight number 14 on the roster: QB Andy Dalton!
Andy Dalton entered the league as the 35th overall pick of the 2nd round in the 2011 NFL Draft, the same year Cam Newton was drafted number 1 overall! Dalton went on to lead the Bengals as their QB from 2011-2019, amassing quite a career as one of the best QBs of their history. However, eventually they cut ties following the selection of Joe Burrow in 2020. Dalton bounced around the league from the Cowboys, to the Bears, and eventually to the (ugh) Saints in 2022. Then, he found a new home as a veteran backup QB to Bryce Young in 2023. Since then, he’s started a handful of games, going 1-5 as a starter but proving to be a reliable backup veteran option.
If Andy Dalton starts anything more than a handful of games in 2025, the Panthers are in dire straits. That would either mean Bryce Young got hurt, or he’s regressed significantly. So as a fan of the team, and a fan of players making money, I hope Andy Dalton collects his paycheck on the bench in 2025! And if he does have to play, hopefully its only to kneel the ball out. But if he does take any meaningful snaps, the Panthers are lucky to have someone with the career Dalton has had!
What are your thoughts on the Panthers backup QB?
