Green Bay Packers wide receiver Jayden Reed was a non-participant on Thursday’s practice, so it wasn’t a surprise that he didn’t suit up for the Packers’ preseason opener against the New York Jets. What is a surprise, though, because we haven’t had updates on his status, is the extent of his foot injury.
Carson Fowler of WFRV in Green Bay took a photo of Reed pregame, showing him in a walking boot. So at minimum, that foot isn’t going to be 100 percent anytime soon.
Despite only playing out of the slot in three-receiver sets, Reed led the 2024 Packers with 55 receptions on 75 targets for 857 yards. His six touchdown catches finished second on the team behind tight end Tucker Kraft.
Based on our charting from earlier this summer, Reed played all 10 of his snaps with the first-team offense on Family Night in the slot. In that sense, his role hasn’t really changed. While he’s out, his replacement will probably be one of Malik Heath or Mecole Hardman, considering that Christian Watson, Dontayvion Wicks and Savion Williams are also on the injury report and were held out against the New York Jets. Both Heath and Hardman are considered to be roster bubble players, but maybe an injury to Reed would tip the scales when roster cutdowns approach.
