The Green Bay Packers had a very specific workout on Monday, as they brought in five defensive tackles for the opportunity to show their stuff in front of the coaching staff. According to the NFL’s transaction report, the Packers had in Tommy Akingbesote, Anthony Campbell, Keondre Coburn, Fabien Lovett and Omari Thomas today.
Considering that starting defensive tackle Devonte Wyatt is still week to week with a knee injury and undrafted rookie Nazir Stackhouse struggled mightily against the Dallas Cowboys, it’s probably not a bad idea for the team to understand its options. Here’s the crash course on these players:
Akingbesote was a seventh-round pick out of Maryland this spring, selected by the Dallas Cowboys. The 22-year-old was released from their roster during cutdowns, two days before the Cowboys traded for nose tackle Kenny Clark. After his release, he signed to the Carolina Panthers’ practice squad but was released on September 23rd. He was ranked as the 350th overall prospect on the consensus draft board in 2025.
The Packers actually got a first-hand look at Campbell when Green Bay hosted a joint practice with the Seattle Seahawks this summer. In that practice, Campbell fought Packers tackle Anthony Belton.
Campbell originally began his college career at the community college level, transferring to Louisiana-Monroe and then eventually Miami for his last stop. He was signed as an undrafted rookie in late May, initially made the Seahawks’ practice squad, but was released just one day after signing that deal. Campbell was unranked on the 2025 consensus draft board.
Coburn is a true nose tackle body. He was taken in the sixth round by the Kansas City Chiefs back in 2023 and has been on four teams in his NFL career. He’s played 20 games and has made a start, earning 233 total defensive snaps played, most recently with the Tennessee Titans in 2024.
Corburn was waived by the Titans during training camp and claimed by the Las Vegas Raiders, who then released him at the cutdown deadline. The Texas defensive tackle slipped a little in the draft, as he was ranked as the 173rd overall prospect on the consensus draft board for the 2023 class.
Lovett played for both Mississippi State and Florida State at the college level. The 2024 undrafted free agent spent his rookie year on the Kansas City Chiefs’ practice squad. This summer, he was waived at the cutdown deadline by the Chiefs, again, and ended up signing with the New England Patriots’ practice squad. He was just released from New England last Tuesday. Lovett was expected to be drafted in the 2024 class, as he was ranked as the draft’s 214th overall prospect per the consensus draft board.
Thomas is a rookie undrafted free agent from Tennessee who was cut at the roster deadline by the New Orleans Saints. At the prep level, Thomas was named an All-American. As far as what’s been reported,...
