Through roughly two weeks of the 2025 NFL season, the Green Bay Packers look like one of the league’s very best teams. The Cleveland Browns…well, they do not. As a result, it should come as no surprise that the sportsbooks have installed the Packers as big favorites over Cleveland in the opening odds for the teams’ week 3 meeting, despite the game being played on the shores of Lake Erie.
According to Fanduel Sportsbook, the Packers have opened up as 8.5-point favorites over the Browns, which is the largest spread of any game on the week 3 schedule. The moneyline on this game also hugely favors the Packers, with Green Bay getting just -450 odds against the Browns at +350.
This will be just the third time since the start of the 2023 season that the Packers are favored by a touchdown or more. The other two instances came late last season:
Despite that big spread, however, the books apparently expect a lower-scoring game — which would be likely if the Packers’ defense continues its impressive run against the Browns. The over/under is set at just 42.5, reflecting the expectation that the Browns struggle to score. After all, Cleveland has scored just 16 and 17 points in their first two games, and the Packers have allowed 13 and 18 so far to offenses that were expected to be much better than the Browns.
The Browns did cover the spread in week 1 as a five-point underdog to the Cincinnati Bengals. However, week 2 was much more Browns-like, as the Ravens easily covered at -11.5 in a 41-17 win. Cleveland had an abysmal record against the spread last season, going 4-13 overall. They were 4-9 against the spread as underdogs, and they actually lost outright in every game that they were favored.
Meanwhile, Green Bay is 2-0 against the spread so far this season, with both of their wins over the Lions and Commanders coming by at least 9 points.
