Packers vs. Ravens Game Discussion: It’s a Backup Bowl on Saturday night

Sorry, NBC. For your late-season game streamed exclusively* on Peacock, you were expecting Jordan Love vs. Lamar Jackson with playoff implications. Instead, you’re getting Malik Willis vs. Tyler Huntley instead.

*Except in the Green Bay, Milwaukee, and Baltimore markets, which will get the game on local NBC stations.

To be sure, Willis vs. Huntley is pretty darn good as backup quarterback matchups go. Willis has been excellent for the Packers in the last two years when called upon to fill in for Love, while Huntley has been much the same as Jackson’s backup for five of the last six seasons. In fact, Huntley somehow even made a Pro Bowl in 2022, albeit as the sixth quarterback option for the AFC.

In any case, the game still has significant potential postseason implications for both of these teams. The losing team in this game will be eliminated from division contention with a loss, with Baltimore being eliminated from the playoffs outright if the Packers win. Green Bay is in the postseason already, but a loss locks them into the #7 seed instead.

Both teams still need considerable help to win their divisions, however, and even with a win could be knocked out with a single result going awry for them on Sunday.
