All of the waiting throughout the offseason and training camp has led to this. The Green Bay Packers are about to kick off their 2025 regular season, starting out at home against the Detroit Lions in a massive season opener for both teams.
The Packers’ recent acquisition of pass-rusher Micah Parsons will be one of the primary storylines throughout today’s game, and rightfully so. Parsons, a perennial Pro Bowler and All-Pro, comes to Green Bay in the prime of his career and promises to be a field-tilting presence once he gets fully integrated into the team’s defensive scheme. Just how much that will be the case today, after just over a week in town, will remain to be seen over the next three-plus hours, but expect to see Parsons and his new #1 jersey in the backfield at least some point, trying to chase down Jared Goff.
Meanwhile, Jordan Love looks to get back to the form that he displayed late in the 2023 season, as he spent all of last season dealing with a number of lingering injuries. This will be Packers’ fans first meaningful look at rookie receiver Matthew Golden as well. The first-round pick has impressed throughout the spring and summer, but now the reps are fully live.
