This evening, the Green Bay Packers finally get their preseason underway. The first competitive portion of the team’s 2025 summer will begin this evening when they take the field against the New York Jets for the teams’ first preseason matchup.
Of course, Aaron Rodgers is no longer a member of the Jets, having been released this offseason before signing a one-year deal with the Pittsburgh Steelers. Earlier in the offseason the Jets brought in former Steelers quarterback Justin Fields to be their starter for the coming season, and Fields may end up playing some in tonight’s game. Fields is of course familiar to Packers fans thanks to his three years with the Chicago Bears, during which time the Bears went 0-6 against Green Bay.
In good news for Packers fans across the country, tonight’s game will be broadcast live nationally on NFL Network. That means no particularly challenging streaming subscriptions or efforts will be necessary to get the game. The game will be shown on local television channels across Wisconsin and the greater Midwest as well, giving fans their first true glimpse of the 2025 Packers against real competition.
While head coach Matt LaFleur said that all of his starters should “expect” to play during the preseason, we will see whether they actually do so. Do not be surprised if most of the team’s established veteran starters do not play tonight — or at all during the preseason, for that matter.
Here’s how and when to tune in for tonight’s preseason opener.
