Do you believe in Spuds MacKenzie wearing an NFL hat? If you do, then start getting excited.
The secretive NFL source known as Rickey, who uses the image of the aforementioned celebrity dog as his Twitter avatar, is back at it this evening after the league’s roster cut deadline. He has posted a trade rumor that, if it comes to fruition, would blow the lid off the NFL — and would vault the Green Bay Packers right into contention as one of the NFC’s Super Bowl favorites.
The mysterious Twitter personality, whose track record is impressive, has reported that the Packers have a trade offer on the table to acquire edge rusher Micah Parsons from the Dallas Cowboys. Parsons has been holding out throughout much of the Cowboys’ training camp after talks broke down between him, his agent, and Cowboys brass – notably, owner Jerry Jones.
The report also suggests that a potential deal would come with a new contract for Parsons worth around $45 million annually in new money.
Remember that Parsons shares an agent with Packers quarterback Jordan Love, as both players are represented by David Mulugheta. Other Packers players also share the same representation as well, including Xavier McKinney, who notably just signed a big new free agent deal in Green Bay 18 months ago. Love and Parsons know each other personally as well, with Love making multiple appearances on Parsons’ podcast including one in which he tried to recruit the pass-rusher to Green Bay.
Rickey’s report is causing a massive stir across NFL and Packers media, but it’s not just a single anonymous rumor. Andy Herman of Packer Report says he’s “hearing buzz from MULTIPLE people” about the Packers and Parsons, indicating that “it doesn’t seem like nothing.”
Even former Packers fullback John Kuhn, who now works for the team itself as a commentator and media personality, got into the action:
One thing is for sure: this is driving massive amounts of interest in the Parsons situation, and it is the strongest sign so far that a deal could actually happen rather than him coming to an agreement with the Cowboys. Stay tuned in the coming hours and days as we continue to monitor the situation.
