The Green Bay Packers will interview Philadelphia Eagles defensive backs coach and passing game coordinator Christian Parker for their defensive coordinator vacancy, according to NFL insider Jordan Schultz. According to Schultz, Parker is set to interview with the Dallas Cowboys for their defensive coordinator job on Wednesday and then “head straight to Green Bay afterward.”

Parker began his NFL career as a quality control coach under Mike Pettine, beginning in 2019, head coach Matt LaFleur’s first year in Green Bay. After two seasons in that role, Parker took over as the Denver Broncos’ defensive backs coach from 2021 to 2023. Over those three seasons, the Broncos’ defense posted an 88.6 passer rating, which was good for the 12th-best in the league.

Parker held the defensive backs role in Denver under three different head coaches: Vic Fangio, former Packers offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett and Sean Payton.

In 2024, Parker reunited with Fangio, the current defensive coordinator with the Eagles, and managed to beat the Packers in the playoffs on the way to last year’s Super Bowl. In his two years with Philadelphia, Parker’s Eagles have posted a 75.4 passer rating, the second-best rate in the league, only behind the Los Angeles Chargers.

So far, this is the first known interview that Green Bay has scheduled for its defensive coordinator opening. Parker was requested to interview by the Cowboys, but he hasn’t been requested for the New York Giants, New York Jets and Washington Commanders, the three other teams that have set up defensive coordinator interviews so far this offseason.

In 2024, Parker was one of the Packers’ known defensive coordinator interviewees following Joe Barry’s firing, which led to Jeff Hafley’s hiring. Others who interviewed include Aden Durde (defensive coordinator in Seattle — Seahawks can block a lateral interview request), Zach Orr (defensive coordinator in Baltimore — TBD on whether he will be kept by a new staff), Brandon Staley (defensive coordinator in New Orleans — can be blocked) and Dennard Wilson (defensive coordinator in Tennessee — TBD on whether he will be kept by a new staff).
