The Green Bay Packers have completed mandatory minicamp, and now fans will wait for them to get back on the field when training camp begins. There are still questions that fans have regarding the team, with one of them being the depth at nose tackle.
Though it may feel like the Packers need to address the position a little more, Packers senior writer Wes Hodkiewicz believes that they won’t go out in the free agent market to sign anybody.
“There are a few out still there, but I don’t think the Packers need one,” Hodkiewicz wrote. “I assume [John] Hargrave and Warren Brinson will be back at the start of training camp, and hopefully Wyatt at some point. In the meantime, Chris McClellan and Jonathan Ford looked good in OTAs and minicamp. Ford is still a huge D-tackle but looked a bit leaner in camp and forced his way into the backfield more than a few times.”
It seems as if the Packers believe in the players they have at the position, and that’s who they’ll be going into training camp with. The defense has been a talking point, and they’ve made moves over the past year to improve that side of the ball.
The one person everyone is hoping to get back on the field sooner rather than later is Micah Parsons, who is still recovering from an ACL injury from last season. As of now, it doesn’t look like Parsons will be ready to start the season, and it may take a few games into the season for him to make his return.
Until then, the Packers have to rely on the players that they have, and maybe between then and now, they’ll decide to make some moves to improve the depth on the defensive line.
